30 fire crews fight Peterborough blaze, residents evacuated but no injuries

Greater than 40 firemens are dealing with a blaze on the roof of the Lidl Distribution centre in Peterborough.

Peterborough Telegraph digital photographer David Lowndes, who goes to the scene, stated he believed the fire began on photovoltaic panels on the roof covering of the building.Thick black smoke can be seen for miles originating from the blaze.

A speaker for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Solution stated: “Crews were called to a structure fire at 1.50 pm this mid-day. Firemans showed up to find a roofing system on fire in a commercial building on Waterworth Road in Awalton, Peterborough.

” A number of fire engines, a turntable ladder, a water provider and our Event Command Device are currently on scene with greater than 40 firefighters working hard to tackle the fire. Great progression is being made.”

Cambridgeshire Authorities attended the scene to support the fire teams.
